AHA Advanced Stroke Life Support® (ASLS®) Provider
Audience
ASLS® is appropriate for all in-hospital and prehospital healthcare professionals involved in the management of acute stroke patients and meets the education requirements for Stroke Center Certification. This advanced course is ideal for:
- Stroke Coordinators,
- Nursing Students and Nurses,
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurses,
- Paramedics & Emergency Medical Personnel,
- Physicians,
- Physician Assistants,
- Residents & Fellows,
- Medical Students, or
- Respiratory Therapists.
Objectives
The ASLS® Blended Learning Course educates healthcare professionals to identify, evaluate, and manage patients with stroke. The skills evaluation consists of three parts: a stroke scale demonstration, a stroke syndrome evaluation, and a stroke simulation scenario. In-person skills tests will challenge learners to apply the skills and knowledge obtained from the online portion to correctly perform neurologic exams, diagnose, and manage patients with stroke.
Length
ASLS® Online course + 2-3 hour skill session. The skills session includes discussion, practical application and a skills test.
Estimated ASLS® Online course completion times:
- Prehospital Provider: 3-6 hours
- In-Hospital Provider: 4-8 hours
- Prehospital & In-Hospital Provider: 5-9 hours
*Because the online portion is adaptive, meaning that you follow a learning path personalized by your inputs and self-reported confidence level, the time it takes to complete the online portion depends on your knowledge level.

Complete one of the self-paced, online courses (available when registering), which will prepare you for the in-person skills evaluation session with an AHA ASLS® Instructor.

AHA ASLS® Instructor
Audience
For any advanced healthcare professional who wants to learn how and be certified to teach American Heart Association ASLS Skills Sessions. Objectives
The ASLS Instructor Essentials Course is comprised of two parts: a self-directed, online portion covering material about becoming an ASLS Instructor; and in-person portion conducted by ASLS Faculty where Instructor Candidates will learn to effectively evaluate ASLS students during their provider courses. Instructor Candidates must then be monitored by ASLS Faculty before teaching a course on their own.

- 1-2 hour ASLS Instructor Essentials online precourse assignment;
- 6-7 hour in-person instructor class with presentation, discussion, practical application, written exam and skills test;
- Monitored teaching.
